MASK USAGE RECOMMENDATIONS:
Respirators have a better seal around the face than flat masks that do not seal around the face as we all have different and beautiful shapes.
These respirators should be reserved for Dentist, Hygienist and Dental assistants when performing any procedure that generates aerosols. When using high speed handpiece, when ultrasonic scaling, when using air water syringes. Reserve these masks when you are doing other duties. you can use your cloth masks when greeting or consulting patients.
Only alternatives if you cannot access N95 respirators, KN95 respirators or better respirators like the filtering face-piece respirators or the , Powered air-purifying respirators. You know the ones that make you look like an alien.
would be to use the , ASTM Level 2, or ASTM Level 3 or Avid's Flat masks would be the next best masks to use but also make sure you are wearing a full face shield. The Avid Flat masks are equivalent to a level 2 or 3 but we cannot state that because they have not been thru the expense of the formal testing as of this date. However, the Avid Flat masks as well as our KN95 respirators have been tested in the European (EU). and could bear the CE mark. The European CE mark is equivalent or better than having the (US) FDA approval or the NIOSH Approval. We are in different times now and the Cares act allows leniency because of the shortage of mask producers and the time it takes to get approvals. This does not mean you are less protected unless other manufacturers blatantly use the wrong materials to produce the masks or if they are just uneducated in mask materials. Our masks are made of QUALITY materials.

Infection Control Considerations
As part of source control efforts, DHCP should wear a facemask at all times while they are in the dental setting.
Because cloth face coverings can become saturated with respiratory secretions, DHCP should take steps to prevent self-contamination:
